HEFCE announces funding for universities and colleges in 2010-11

08 Feb 2010

The HEFCE board agreed the allocation of £7,356 million for the 2010-11 academic year covering teaching, research, capital and related activities. The grants to individual institutions will be decided by the Board at its meeting on 4 March, and the full grant announcement will be published on 18 March.

The allocation for research is £1,603 million. This represents a £32 million or 2 per cent increase in cash terms (maintained in real terms) on the £1,571 million allocated for the 2009-10 academic year.

Business Minister Pat McFadden visits AgustaWestland

Business Minister Pat McFadden is visiting AgustaWestland today to celebrate the helicopter manufacturer’s commitment to recruit apprentices. On the final day of National Apprenticeship Week, the Minister will meet apprentices at the Yeovil based firm, which has trebled its apprenticeship intake in the past four years.

£700 million lending boost for UK SMEs

Over £700 million of affordable and easy to access funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB) has been approved for nearly 3,000 small businesses across the UK, through participating national banks.

Small businesses access the funds through intermediating national banks, which then lend the finance on a matched funds basis. In the first year the target was for UK banks to secure £1 billion of finance for SMEs from the EIB. This was achieved, with banks having now secured a total of £1.39 billion from the EIB.

Clean Sky 3rd call for proposals launched

The Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative has launched its 3rd call for proposals. This call covers 45 topics with total available funding of up to 18.8 million euros. Deadline for submitting proposals: 17:00 Brussels Time, 27th April 2010.
